Mango


In 1959 Les Weis decided to combine the mango, his favourite fruit, with a nice cool lashing of home made ice cream. And not just any old mango. The best available Kensington Pride mangos from tropical North Queensland are the predominant variety used in all Weis mango products. Nowadays we still purchase our mangos direct from selected farms in North Queensland.

And nothing signals Christmas is close at the Weis factory better than the arrival of truckloads of mangos. In fact driving past our Toowoomba factory in December visitors to the city are greeted by the overwhelming smell of ripe mangos.

On arrival the fruit is quality checked then left to ripen naturally. Once the fruit is 'ready to eat' the mangoes are individually inspected by trained Weis staff before processing into a puree. Our "mango experts" say the variation of each season's mangos is like a vintage is to wine thanks to rainfall and weather conditions during the growing season.

The Mango and Cream Bar remains our best-selling product and our favourite fruit to work with and now you can enjoy it in a refreshing Sorbet or an indulgent Mango and Cream Tub.
