
The humble but very popular banana is the most nutritiously complex and unique of all fruit. Not many people know that bananas do not actually grow on trees, in fact banana's come from a large fruiting herb. The fruits succulent sweetness and soft, smooth and creamy pulp are the perfect addition to a tropical fruit salad combination like our Passionfruit with Pineapple, Banana & Cream Bar.
It is important for bananas to be harvested in a green state at the right time as they continue to sweeten after picking. If harvested too early, they develop a floury pulp which overpowers their delightful sweet flavour. They are ready to eat when they turn yellow with some brown spots. So that’s exactly when we hand peel each and every banana for processing into Weis Bars.
The variety we use is the Cavendish, known as the dessert banana, which is grown locally in Queensland and northern NSW.
